The EPA Renovate, Repair & Painting Rule Goes Into Effect on April 22, 2010
The law, 40 CFR Part 745, requires that any renovations performed for conpensation on homes built before 1978, must be done by EPA certified firms using certified renovators. In addition to contractors, this includes landlords and property managers. The fines for non compliance are up to $37,500 per violation. Fines can be assessed up to 3 years after the completion of the project.
